Don’t buy generic peanut butter…

Published by apennysaved at 3:01 pm under Saving Money Edit This

Hey!
–So, after work, I noticed that I needed to buy groceries since, well, all we had in our refrigerator was a bottle of mustard, an empty milk carton, three marshmallows and half an onion (don’t ask). Now, I know with a lot of people, grocery shopping can be both painful and scary, because it’s all but too easy to blow $200 or more if you’re not careful. Luckily, I didn’t spend that much because of my new tactic (not that it’s you know, super top secret, but it’s something so simple that too many people overlook). Yes, that’s right, I bought generic brand food. I got generic groceries. Except for tuna fish. Fish deserves to be higher quality and needs to be handled with care, and, I’m sorry, but I’m not compromising on my fish. Or peanut butter, but I’ll get to that later.
—So yes, I went down the aisles with my shopping cart and, when faced with the choice between a brand name and non-brand name product, chose the non-brand name one, because they taste just the same as the brand name ones and are cheaper! Which reminds me, I especially hate when people won’t buy non-brand name aspirin. No, for them, only brand name is good enough for them and lowly generic aspirin is just beneath their high horses. Obviously they never read the ingredients, or they would have realized that both brand name and non-brand name aspirins have the same ingredients. And doesn’t it make sense that if they have the same ingredients, that they both work as well as the other, and that it’d be a waste of money to buy the more expensive brand name one when they both do the same exact thing? But, I digress.
–So, when I got home, I decided to make myself a peanut butter sandwich. Oops, I mean a generic peanut butter sandwich. So I opened the jar, spread some of it between two slices of bread, and then took a bite. And what an awful bite it was! I swear, that single morsel of food was perhaps the most unfortunate thing I’ve ever had the displeasure to have had slither down my throat. Really, I can’t even find the adjectives to describe how gut-wrenchingly bad it was. In short, NEVER buy generic peanut butter. It couldn’t hurt much to splurge on just one food item, right? Anyway, I reckon I saved about $15 buying generic. Go me!

—–Oh, and if you want to leave a comment, you can either leave one under this specific post or do so in the “about” section. So, whether or not you too decided to buy generic, just remember, stay away from the peanut butter!   *shudders*.

I’ve bought generic stuff for a while now and I’ve had good experiences with generic peanut butter. Which store brand did you buy? Maybe one store brand is better than another. I don’t buy everything generic, but mostly generic, because there are a few things that I can’t handle in the generic form either because it doesn’t taste good or exactly the same. An example is like Oreo’s or Spaghettio’s, it doesn’t matter which store brand you buy on those two items, the generic will never taste as good! There are lots of generic items that taste good though and can save you lots of money, without tasting awful!

Hmm well I bought it from Giant, but maybe it was just a tainted jar? Maybe I’ll go to another supermarket and buy their generic brand peanut butter and see if it is just specifically the Giant’s peanut butter that tastes awful, or generic peanut butter in general. But, I’m afraid that all generic peanut butter has that gross watery/oily stuff at the top and tastes bad. But, maybe if I feel daring I’ll give it a second chance.

Don’t buy Giant soup because it has gross yellow stuff in it.
